Creative Saturday Cinema Challenge #29 "To Catch A Thief"

I haven't seen this movie in ages but had to try out an idea nevertheless..... When you're owned by a couple of cats, what else comes to mind but a cat burglar? The brief was to use layers to represent the layers of meaning in the movie, so I did my best. The base is my usual white CS, topped first with a piece of reversible DP from Paper Chic. I coloured the edges a little to highlight them because the contrast didn't show up too well when photographed. Next came the dusky rose satin paper strips from the busy room boxes, ditto the wisp of black suede from which I cut the cat shape. I added a length of black satin ribbon to ground him and also provide more of a table from which that sneaky cat is trying to help himself to a diamond or pearl or two. Those sparklers are from Creative Charms. The sentiment seemed appropriate with its allusion to living more than once (but not 9 times), and is from the new SU Fifth Avenue Florals. What do you think?

A bunch of blooms

Often when I need a card in a hurry, inspiration is missing, and I'm not sensible enough to have a collection ready-made at home; plus I like to make something special with a particular person in mind. It wont come as any surprise to my friends that my favourite flower stamp (until the next order arrives!!) is from the SU Eastern Blooms pack...so today and yesterday when I unexpectedly found myself at home with time on my hands I had a play. I used some of my limited range of stamp pads with embossing powders in pearl, white, light iridescent and copper to see what happens on some different card stock. Most of my cards are predominantly black or white, so adding coloured flowers is very brave for me!! This little task also gave me practise with my decoupage scissors, a skill I have temporarily abandoned, as well as a collection of spare images. Now to put something together for Mothers Day....

Flowers for my friend

After an afternoon spent stamping, and with the help of the clever and talented Debbie P, I have a potted present to give another friend tonight. This lady and I have been friends for more years than I care to count, since starting school together, and she loves pink flowers. Debbie found a tutorial for making the pot, and I raided her stash for pink paper and inks. Funny how the plans I had for using another flower image didn't eventuate??? My favourite SU Eastern Bloom just looks right to me. Two of the flowers are embossed with white, and two with pearl. The details are picked out with silver and white gel pens. All the leaves are courtesy of Debbie who patiently punched out ovals and scored them down the middle, but its hard to see them in the little gaps. I tried out my new Versamark chalk stamp on a piece of acetate for the sentiment. The ribbon came from the busy room and was j-u-s-t long enough.

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #27

When the solution to this week's film was posted I knew I wanted to make something, but what? Then in the middle of the night (dreams fueled by Easter chocolate of course) I thought this is what I'd try. I know it doesn't REALLY look like a chocolate box, but maybe an illusion? Anyway, there are six "chocolates" made with a variety of cuttlebug folders and SU stamps, all topped with SU Crystal Effects for chocolate gloss. The papers are all from the shelves of the busy room, including the vellum which is nearly older than my son (22 this year). It pays to be a hoarder!! It took me so long to make that I know I need more lessons from Debbie.

Happy Easter

Well, Easter Bunny has been busy at our house. Only problem was getting up early enough to let him in while the rest of the house sleeps on.....out babysitting for friends last night and that makes getting out of bed just a bit harder. Somewhere on the web I saw a card that used egg wrapping foil in the background.... maybe that would be my excuse for eating any.

Rendevous Monday Colour CAS Challenge

Had to dream up something for this challenge when I read about it on Debbie's page... a simple card in the colours I like best, and with just a little bit of cuttlebugging!! Clean and simple is the mantra. I was supposed to use black, white and kraft CS but the coffee-ish one is the closest I had to hand. I used two of the slim cuttlebug folders from the "Just my type" set for the spots, and resisted the temptation to keep layering. The stamp is from the SU Eastern Blooms set, which is my current favourite. Kept it simple... maybe a little too minimalist, maybe not.

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #26

"My Fair Lady"..... this card takes its inspiration from the flowers Eliza sells before her transformation, and the unforgettable Ascot Opening Day. Thanks to a day spent with my good friends Ali and Liz, I was able to borrow a background stamp for the stripes (Ali's SU Dad's Day set), then I ran it through my cuttlebug to give it some extra lift and added a black background too. The flowers are stamped on white and black using the biggest of the Eastern Blooms, and a variety of embossing.... glossy black, pearl (which came out looking very silver) and iridescent. Two are flat on the card and three are lifted up. The satin ribbon is from the deep dark recesses of my busy room. Not too sure about the sentiment ("May all your dreams come true")being on the inside, but its embossed too. Think this one might find its way to Liz's place for her next birthday.
